The Retro Room at Cityside is 1-year-old today! Also Massive Mario Kart for Culture Night!
It's one year to the day since we opened the doors of the Retro Room at Cityside and what a year it's been!
The year in stats...
- We've had 13,876 gamers through the doors. Wow! Thank you all for visiting us.
- We've added 18 new machines since opening up including NI's only Space Ace, Afterburner, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Simpsons, Mortal Kombat, Joust, Bombjack, Rygar and Operation Thunderbolt as well as Tekken 3, Commando and many others both on the floor and in the workshop. Our game stock is now over 80 cabinets all told.
- We've run 14 special events in our first year including Retro Wrestlefest, The Cityside Challenge, The Culture Night Olympic Games, World Cup Football Fest, Hacker Battlebots, Delorean Racing, our Halloween Spooktacular, Massive Mortal Kombat, our May the 4th Star Wars Celebration, Palentine's Day and our Xmas Party with many more special events planned for our second year. If you've an event in mind related to retro gaming and need a venue we're all ears, get in touch.
- We hosted 26 private hires including birthday parties and corporate events and had two film shoots, two music videos and a TV series film in the Retro Room. We also had Command HQ Arcade make a very cool 3D walkaround of the arcade.
- We also hosted a special screening of the horror classic Friday the 13th on Friday the 13th with the Movie House Cinemas. We'd love to do many more of these! Keep your eyes peeled on this.
- We created two limited edition T Shirts with more to come in our second year.
- We started a web series, Beyond Saving, playing really truly awful games just for fun.
- We built a ticketing system for the arcade that we're talking to other venues about using.
- We appeared in A Tale of Two Halves: The History Of Football Video Games for our remake of the 1987 classic Brian Clough's Football Fortunes.
- We'd a great chat on the High Scores, High Stakes podcast.
And we're kicking off our second year with new member's nights and our first member's only event, Massive Mario Kart at the Movie House on Culture Night, September 18th. Unfortunately it sold out within a couple of hours but we'll be announcing a calendar of special member's only nights and events very soon.
Once again a huge thank you to everyone who made it down to the arcade in our first year, it's been a year of learning and fun and that's exactly what we hoped for. See you in year two!
